Porsche was originally founded in 1931, more than 88 years ago in Stuttgart, Germany, by Ferdinand Porsche. Originally, the company more formally named “Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH” did not build any vehicles under their own name but offered helpful development work and consulting for motor vehicle manufacturers. In fact, one of the first assignments for Porsche was to help the German government in creating the Volkswagen Beetle. Upon designing their own vehicles, models such as the Porsche 64 used influences from other projects and used many components from the Beetle model.

Ferdinand Porsche was born in Austria on September 3, 1875. Along with being the founder of the Porsche car company, Ferdinand Porsche was a designer and engineer who is often also known for creating the first gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle.
