For decades, diesel has been a popular alternative to ordinary gasoline-powered vehicles. However, in recent years industry trends have begun to shift. More and more car shoppers are looking into electrified vehicles, especially hybrids. With this shift, demand and popularity of diesel powertrains have begun to wane. Porsche has been making diesel vehicles for some time, but as of February 2018, the brand no longer offers any diesel drivetrains and has ceased production on them permanently.

Porsche Powertrain Options
Diesel was never a particularly huge part of the Porsche powertrain offerings. In 2017, only 12 percent of global Porsche sales were diesel models. Comparatively, 63 percent of all Panamera models ordered in Europe have been hybrids. Following their current trends, Porsche will have invested more than six billion euros in their electrification plans and technologies by the 2022 calendar year. By 2025? Half of Porsche’s lineup could be made up of electrified vehicles. The future is exciting; however, it unfortunately doesn’t include diesel engine options.
Can I still buy diesel Porsche models?
Although Porsche is no longer producing diesel models, you may be able to find certified pre-owned Porsche models equipped with diesel powertrains. This includes models like the Macan, Panamera and Cayenne. You simply won’t be able to find any new diesel models.
What about service for my diesel Porsche?
If you’re already the proud owner of a Porsche model with a diesel powertrain, you don’t have to worry about Porsche no longer providing service for your vehicle. Just because they’re not making them anymore doesn’t mean they – and by extension we – won’t take care of the ones they’ve already sold.
