20th Anniversary of the Porsche 911 GT3
20 years ago, Porsche introduced an exciting new 911 model in the form of the 911 GT3. Originally named after a class of endurance racing cars, the new 911 GT3 was determined to excel with track performance and a fantastic driving experience perfectly suited for motorsports. Now in 2019, Porsche is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Porsche 911 GT3.
Specs of the Original Porsche 911 GT3
Back in 1999, the first 911 GT3 model was introduced to the European market. At the time, it was one of the first production cars to complete a lap at the Nürburgring in under 8 minutes with a 7:56.33-minute time. The original 911 GT3 was powered by a 265 kW, 3.6-liter engine with a top track speed of 187 mph.
Now, the current day 911 GT3 took things in a positive direction in terms of both design and performance. In fact, the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 comes equipped with a 4.0-liter boxer 6 engine, capable of a whopping 500 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. The new Porsche 911 GT3 also has a top track speed up to 198 mph and can even accelerate from 0 – 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. This new Porsche 911 GT3 also completed the Nürburgring with a lap time of 7:12.7 minutes. After 20 years of innovation, the new 911 GT3 is more capable than ever before as the 911 GT3 continues to improve in the coming years.
